Let's play a game

What do the Mt. Lebanon Police Department, Mt. Lebanon Commissioners, Mt. Lebanon School Board Directors, and possibly Mt. Lebanon teachers and Mt. Lebanon Fire Department have in common?

Here are a couple of hints:

Paul Ryan and Capitol Hill interns

House GOP

Too many white folk. I wonder how many non-whites have applied for jobs at the MLPD? And women? Check out the home page of the MLPD. The group photo of all the white guys is very telling. It's also shameful.

So minorities need not apply?

No, but are you saying that Mt. Lebanon is not hiring minorities? I agree that in general, having more minorities on the police force and in local government could help to solve many of the tensions we see today. However, Mt. Lebanon is basically an all-white community. Unless there is evidence to show that the government is not hiring any minority applications, perhaps they just are not applying.

When one takes into account the big paychecks that the Mt. Lebo cops get, I'm willing to bet my arms and legs that minorities have applied for the job. These jobs are not available only to applicants who live in Mt. Lebanon. This is not about the racial composition of Mt. Lebanon. Applicants need not live in Mt. Lebanon. Instead, this is about how many minorities (including women)have been turned down for the job. The MLPD would be the agency with that information. You are correct, I cannot say definitely that minorities have not applied at the MLPD. C'mon, though, do you really think that there has been none?

No, I cannot say that there have been none. But also, I am sure that there are not zero minorities or women who work for the MLPD. Do you also think that it doesn't make sense that perhaps a communities police force should be composed, racially, in a similar diversity to that of the community?

You are probably correct that women work for the MLPD. I guess I was referring to the position of police officer. If your diversity theory holds water, it would also need to apply to men v. women in uniform. As far as I know, there is not one female police officer in the MLPD. Yet what is the % of women who live in Mt. Lebanon?

Welp, you are correct. There are no female police officers. Only female record keepers. It would be interesting to see the application data.

I can tell you about 15 years ago, a young male driver blocked my car on a major street. He got out of his car and gave me the middle finger. I did not confront him in anyway. I did call the police and a female officer came to my house and took my complaint. She then went to his residence and he was cited. I do believe that Mt. Lebanon Police does hire female police officers. The question then is how may apply and how many are qualified.

I do know that the MLPD hired a female officer in the 2000s. I thought it was the late 2000s but it may have been earlier, as 11:38 surmises. I forget her name but would recognize if I heard it. This female's zone commander at the Pittsburgh Bureau told me about the hire. To this day, I have never seen a female cop in Lebo or seen a female in any in the photos of the force on the MLPD web site. So, I don't know what became of her.

I find it very unnerving that there are no female officers on the Mt. Lebanon police force. It ain't right.
