Park plans may come to a grinding halt

Friends of Robb Hollow Park's Mary D'Angelo sent me an interesting letter today from the PA Department of Conservation & Natural Resources.  It was sent to Steve Feller and calls for the end of shredding and composting of leaves or other vegetative material (that includes trees) in Robb Hollow Park.
Mary wrote in her email, "Imagine enjoying life near a park that contains only the leaves that nature puts there! Bet you’re smiling~I am!"
The DCNR letter states that equipment must be removed from that park immediately.  Looks like McNeilly Park may have to be the new home of the Beast.

Not very likely, Elaine. I believe that federal provisions within the McNeilly grant also restrict McNeilly use to recreation only, as probably does the DCNR grant instrument within which it resides. And the DCNR is saying leaf-related activity ain't rec.

Gee Bill, as a child rolling in the fall leaves was great recreation for my friends and I.
Sometimes the simple pleasures are the fondest memories.

Sorry Dick, you missed my intended meaning and it was my fault....by "leaf-related activity" I meant the collection, grinding/shredding, composting and former storage of leaf and yard waste in Robb Hollow.

I too fondly remember making large fall leaf piles in the back yard for our children & grandchildren to play in, and cherish the photos we took. Remember also being able to legally burn leaves along our street gutters and the resulting smoke aromas which really confirmed Fall and pro football season...of course, we can't do that anymore for good reason.

Just being funny Bill. I remember the woods around our area being the perfect recreation spot. It could be Sherwood Forest, the frontier, Fort Apache almost anything our little minds could imagine. Now that was recreation!!!!

Unfortunely for todays kids, everything must be managed by mommy and daddy.
