Another potential teachers' grievance in our future?

The Trib reported yesterday in Social media policy scrapped by Bethel Park School Board:

The Bethel Park School Board rescinded a nearly 2-year-old social media policy for staff and volunteers this week after the teachers' union agreed to withdraw an unfair labor charge it filed with the state Labor Relations Board, officials said.
Asserting that the policy with rules for using cell phones, Facebook, Twitter and blogs was overly broad, the American Civil Liberties Union of Pennsylvania last year also told district officials it was prepared to take legal action against the district.
Bethel Park school directors voted 5-0 Tuesday to scrap the policy; four members were absent. Board members couldn't be reached for comment Wednesday.
“Under the advisement of our solicitors, we rescinded it to give us some time to review it,” district Superintendent Nancy Aloi Rose said.
Here in Mt. Lebanon, our school board directors adopted a similar policy, Policy GBEE Student Communications on October 17, 2011. I wonder how the Bethel Park Teachers' Union would rate our policy.

Speaking of MTLSD policies, I love the spelling of "Exercises" listed on Policy IKF here.

It is important to recognize that the current pension structure comes with tradeoffs - there are things we could be doing with the resources devoted to fund teacher retirement benefits that we are not doing right now, like funding other instructional expenditures. These resources are substantial--in Missouri, 29 percent of teachers' earnings are currently required to fund retirement benefits, and this still may not be enough. Moreover, evidence is emerging that teachers do not value their pension benefits at nearly the cost of providing them. If pension plans are not helping to shape a more-effective workforce, it is important to ask whether the resources that they currently consume could be put to better use to improve K-12 schools.

The most obvious reason for not shifting resources away from teacher retirement compensation is that the pension structure is positively affecting workforce quality. Since there no indications that this is the case, policymakers must ask if they could do a better job of recruiting and/or retaining high-quality teachers by using the resources that are currently being used to fund teacher pensions more effectively - especially in Bethel Park.

And let's not forget our Lt. Auth of the police union who handcuffed a school director for acting responsibly. I just can't wait to have a retired police union member on the school board next year. Those union members are classy guys.

Let's not forget our classy school board director who looked down her nose at a Dollar Store being constructed here in Shangri-Lebo. She actually used the word ghetto in relation to a retial outlet. Classy, classy, classy. We're gonna kick so much class, we'll be the classiest of all. And people will flock here in droves because of our class-is-half-full attitude. Oh, and the fields. Let's not forget that people move here for the fields. Maybe our motto should be "Lebo--Full of Class and Grass"

"Lebo--Full of Class and Grass"

Now THAT is funny! It's too bad the municipality doesn't install a wave-pool at the Swim Center; then we could call the town "The Land of Surf and Turf."

EG:
Maybe you should have a contest to create a slogan for Mt. Lebanon. Just kidding!

Here's my contest submission should you start one.
