Shaking my head

According to Harry Funk's article in The Almanac, Mt. Lebanon superintendent receives raise, donates part to capital campaign,  Dr. Timothy Steinhauer received a 6.6% increase in salary after receiving a "satisfactory" performance review, and will donate $5,000 of his new salary of $186,625 to the capital campaign. Last month the assistant superintendents received salary increases which were within the 2.8% average salary increase as previously identified as the average Act 93 administrator increase.

At the August 17, 2015 school board meeting, Steinhauer announced the five recipients of the Mt. Lebanon Great Alumni Award for 2015.

Fr. John Chakos graduated from Mt. Lebanon in 1959. He was our priest at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church for 31 years. Father John and his wife Sandy are now missionaries in Guatemala.

Jack Daly graduated from Mt. Lebanon High School in 1984. Daly organized the Case Engineer Support Group, a nonprofit which builds physical and occupational therapy equipment for disabled adults and children.

Greg Gnipp, class of 1986, whose work with the U.S. Public Health Service includes working in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy and helping to contain the Ebola virus in Liberia.

Our school board president Larry Lebowitz, class of '80, is an attorney with Cohen & Grigsby. His received national attention with this youtube video at 1:45 time stamp where he said, "our goal is clearly not to find a qualified and interested U.S. worker," Many articles were published such as this one Outsourcing: How to Skirt the Law.

And the fifth recipient is Josephine Posti. Josephine graduated from Mt. Lebanon High School in 1986. As school board president, Josephine was caught plagiarizing four years ago. Consequences, not corrections (with more incidents) , and Much ado about...Mt. Lebanon board chief's blog.

The award recipients will be honored at the September 25 luncheon and again that night at the Mt. Lebanon High School football game.

"Dr. Timothy Steinhauer received a 6.6% increase in salary after receiving a "satisfactory" performance review and will donate $5,000 of his new salary of $186,625 to the capital campaign.

Item: "According to Mercer’s 2014/2015 US Compensation Planning Survey, the average raise in base pay is expected to be 3.0% in 2015, up slightly from 2.9% in 2014, 2.8% in 2013 and 2.7% in 2012." (Source: Mercer is a global consulting leader in talent, health, retirement, and investments)

Item: "U.S. workers can expect a median base salary increase of 3 percent in 2015 across all main employee categories and most industries, still below pre-recession levels, according to separate research findings by pay consultancy Hay Group and WorldatWork, an association of total rewards professionals." (Source: Society for Human Resource Management)

Fact: Dr. Steinhauer's salary does not come from his participation in the free market, or from managing a product offered to the public that succeeds through choice, but by that particular system of theft known as property and earned income taxes. The fact that he declares that he will give $5,000 of it to the capital campaign simply means that we taxpayers have contributed to "said campaign," whether we like it or not. Now I'm perfectly aware that the man holds a legitimate job and must be compensated for it, and having said that he is entitled to dispose of his income as he sees fit. But Dr. Steinhauer is being neither noble nor philanthropic, as his contribution is doing nothing but making a monetary semi-circle. And why announce it? If he feels that strongly about contributing to the capital campaign he could have done so quietly.

I just finished reading the article and viewing the You Tube video featuring Larry Lebowitz. Oh my goodness!!! This is our school board president? And, he is the recipient of the Mt. Lebanon Great Alumni Award for 2015? God help us all. What a disgrace!!!! It was interesting to read the You Tube video comments. Someone referred to him as a scumbag. I have to agree.

Larry will be reelected again. This is nothing new. I brought this up when he ran before.

4:39, I just watched the YouTube video with Larry Lebowitz advocating for non-American workers too. This is outrageous to say the least. How can someone who supports bypassing American workers for immigrant workers have any credibility in any sort of educational system in America? Clearly Mr. Lebowitz lives his life with a set of double standards.

I think we should outsource the school board. Larry gives some good tips we could use. I bet he'd be "excited" that we were taking his advice.

Also, let's open up those HB visas for lawyers! Lawyers in America are milking people for way too much money. It would be easier if we could have access to foreign lawyers who didn't take so much money.

"Sorry Larry, your resume just doesn't meet our standards."

Where's the data to support the superintendent's satisfactory performance?
