Jaywalking Ordinance Passed Unanimously UPDATED

The TV cameras were at the commission meeting tonight. Three people spoke against the jaywalking ordinance. It didn't matter. The commissioners' minds were made up. Fines up to $300 for anyone caught jaywalking. I guess we now have a walking tax.

Nabbed a crosswalk DRIVER violator on video - Sunday, February 21, 2016

Speaking of walking, Jody Jodi Joe D. spoke via telephone to the commissioners tonight concerning the "successful"archery program. Approximately 2% of the wounded deer got away. Kelly asked where they went and Jody said they just got away. Jody was proud of the fact that the number that got away was only 2%. Usually, it is around 5%. For future archery programs, Jody would like to see hunting over bait. There are some counties that permit that. He wants archers who aren't police officers to kill deer in our parks. Twin Hills should have been allowed. Mt. Lebanon is a private property owner of Twin Hills. They could have gotten lots of deer there. Jody wants White Buffalo killers (archery and guns) to be able to ask people for ID, who are walking through the public property during killing. If they don't have id, then the cops are called. They could be poachers or people interfering with a hunt.

Who made Jody Maddock God? He wants the owners of the public parks to show ID? This man is insane.

"They could be poachers or people interfering with a hunt."

They could also be residents who enjoy walking or biking throughout our parks. Since when did killing deer become more of a priority than us residents using our taxpayer funded/owned parks?

The commissioners thought it was a good idea, Nick.

Who is going to want to come to Mt Lebanon when they hear about the $300 jaywalking fine and the constant deer killing with police just waiting for "interference"?

Oh, sure, the hired killers should ask for OUR ID. That makes sense. But, how would they know by looking at our ID whether we are interfering with a hunt? Also, if Jody's boys are looking for poachers while they are in the parks killing, wouldn't that mean that they are poaching, too? It doesn't say on your driver's license whether you are a poacher or a neb nose.

Why is that man allowed to speak at our community meetings? If I were a commissioner and heard Jody spew his nonsense, I would die laughing--- right there at the meeting.

I understand Jody phoned in. It was for the final Final Archery Report, as opposed to the not so final Final Archery Report that we got last month. I imagine if Jody Jodi Joe D. had showed up in person, he would have been high fiving the commissioners over the success of the archery program. Triple J was hired by the commissioners. They are the ones believing it all.

I see a ton of people on the weekend who park their car on Washington Road and then cross the street to get their cup of coffee!! Easy money for the township!
Much harder to harass the texters.....

Chief says we have a case of "pedestrian entitlement". What a detective!

Elaine you are right. Those commissioners think that Triple J is the best thing since sliced bread. What fools.

About "pedestrian entitlement", doesn't that directly conflict with "walking community."

I'm guess that Jody's reasons for not wanting police hunting in parks is quite different than my reasons for not wanting police hunting in parks. I would be quite interest in knowing what his reasons are.

Jody is just supporting the PA Game Commission, and their mission is to expand hunting opportunities. It's just reciprocity.

But MAN it is hard to believe these things are being said in public about showing ID and "confronting" hunters in parks. Isn't that what got Amy Castor in trouble? This is insane.

An excellent write up at Bike Pittsburgh about the new ordinance :

It would be beyond excellent in Lebo folks interested in street safety attended this event. With citizen data, there is power. The traffic engineers we pay for with our taxes ...don't trust a **word*** that they say.

John Rowley, thank you for sending the link. From that write up:

For instance, if it’s clear and there are no cars coming, most people will weigh the cost, and cross instead of waiting in the rain or snow.
Instead of criminalizing pedestrians, officials should be looking into making the pedestrian experience as convenient as possible, especially in business districts.
– Is the signal cycle too long, leaving people impatiently waiting at a corner, even though there are no cars coming?

I saw that yesterday with my own eyes. I was standing at the Washington Rd./Cedar Blvd. crosswalk, waiting for the signal to cross Washington Rd. and into the parking garage. There were no cars coming in either direction. A woman, also waiting at the other end of the crosswalk, decided to cross. She crossed Washington Rd. and said to me with a smile, "It's too cold to wait." It would be my luck to get a $300 fine for jaywalking, so I waited. When I finally got the white guy signal (is that P.C.?) it gave me little time to cross before getting the blinking hand sign. At the same time, I had to deal with the car coming up from Cedar and making a left onto Washington Rd. The woman who crossed against the light didn't have to deal with any traffic. I, on the other hand, could have gotten hit in the crosswalk, even though I had the ROW.

Two points...the signal cycles were purposely set for a long wait along Washington Road. This is especially noticeable on any intersection on Washington Road especially at the Mission Hills/Washington Road intersection.

The fine for driving without a drivers license is something like $330 (according to the UJS website), about the same as crossing a street against the walk signal. What's wrong with this picture?

Even traffic 21, a transportation research institute at CMU, is writing about MTL's idiotic plan to go after pedestrians while ignoring the issue of speeders. traffic 21
