Not a pretty sight UPDATED 2X

Picture this. It is 10:01 AM and the North Garage is temporarily filled. You have a 10:00 hair appointment at La Pomponnee. You know that the Academy Lot is filled, but there is an open parking space right in front of the salon. You know you will be in there much longer than two hours and there is a two hour parking limit. What would you do?

According to Keith McGill, you are to turn around and park at the South Garage, down the street. This scenario happened to me this morning, as well as three weeks ago.

I sent an email to the commission and manager three weeks ago when this happened and again this morning.

Good morning Elaine,
I am not sure if you considered the South Garage, which does have space available. Restoration work is currently impacting space at the North Garage this work should be finished in the near future.. The Academy lot would be another option.

As part of the proposed fee schedule for 2017 there is a recommendation to institute a fee for meters on Washington Road that would allow someone to park up to three hours. The third hour would be at a higher rate.
Eric Milliron is always working with our business owners and soliciting their input on ways to ensure the continued success of our business districts and has had numerous conversations regarding the issue of parking.

This is crazy. The salons are suffering. The restaurants are suffering, not to say what it is doing to the shoppers who support small businesses. I will be another wreck until I get the heck out of here.

So what did I do? I took a chance and fed the meter. Head full of hair dye and all.

I think that I am the only one who waits for the appropriate signal before crossing in front of the entrance to the North Parking Garage. Everyone else passes me by and walks when the signal shows the hand.

When there is construction going on in the North Garage, which seems to be constant, God Forbid Mt. Lebanon eases up on their two hour parking limit.

Fortunately, I was living right this time and escaped the wrath of the meter maid. I didn't stay for lunch because I knew I was pressing my luck. I turned left on to Academy Avenue and then cut back over to Cedar Blvd. and then came across this. No warnings anywhere.

OK, no problem. I'll get back on to Academy and down to Cochran Road. Maybe hit the Galleria for a sandwich at Panera.

And came across this:

I just went home.

Update October 21, 2016 1:32 PM Since I cannot post photos in the comment section, I wanted to share a photo of the beautiful Susan Morgans. See it isn't all about me, Susan.

Update October 21, 2016 3:30 PM I don't see it, 3:23 PM.

So why didn't you use the other garage? It was that easy.

The other (south) garage is about 1/2 mile walk from LaPomponee. While that does not seem like a long distance if you are out for a fitness walk, one should not have to walk that far (and pay money to walk that far) to visit a salon in Uptown Mt. Lebanon.

Two weeks ago, my daughter and I drove to Uptown and parked in a metered space. As usual, because I do not have quarters growing out of my ears, I paid with a credit card and got the mandatory two hour parking limit. (Cannot pay for less if paying with a credit card.) Now, I knew that we would only be in that space for about 45 minutes, but you have to do what you have to do. That's fine.

Less that 45 minutes later, we returned to the car only to see Mizz Meter Tracker in the process of writing a ticket for my car. Huh? Well, apparently, the meter was not working properly and was indicating no time remaining. Mizz Meter Tracker acknowledged that the meter was broken, BUT said that I needed to place a dime or a quarter into the meter, anyway, even though I was leaving. Here's why. She said that she had already started to write the ticket and couldn't tear it up. Made no sense to me but I did it. Either that or go across the street and plead my case before Crazy Blaise.

Shopping in Uptown Mt. Lebanon becomes more tedious every day. Don't bother.

I was talking to a shop owner this afternoon during my second trip up to Washington Road today, and thankfully got a spot in the North Garage.

This person has two leased spots in the garage and buys one hour parking tickets for customers. During this latest round of improvements to the North Garage, the shop owner parked on Washington Road since the Academy Lot was full as it always is, as well as the North Garage being temporarily full. Something came up at the shop and even though there was still time left in the meter, the poor shop owner was given a $20 parking ticket, for parking longer than two hours.

We are suppose to utilize the new parking app, support the business district, but make sure that it is for less than two hours. I ended up spending more this morning feeding the meter than I would have, had I found a spot in the garage. I don't understand what they are thinking up there.

We decided against having our son see Dr. Good for braces specifically because of the muni's parking control freaks. I certainly wouldn't open a business Uptown.

So Elaine shows up late for a $50+ hair appointment, finds a prime sparking space in front of the salon and for that our Manager gets an email? Seriously? And our PIO has the attitude?

And by the way, distance from the S. Garage to the Salon is 1/10 of a mile plus about another 10 feet.

off topic: why isn't there a leboalert or police post on the missing mt lebanon resident? i find it disturbing that there isn't more of an effort in pittsburgh to find missing people. even if foul play is suspected, can you imagine how the loved ones feel?

I would not have been late for my appointment, had the garage been open. When I was there last week for an appointment,a woman apologized for being late because she drove around looking for a place to park because the garage was filled. She ended up back at the South Garage and was twenty minutes late. I wrote to the commissioners and manager because of their stupid two hour parking limit.

Yes, I have the attitude. That is why I just posted about a missing person in Mt. Lebanon on Nextdoor, where our police should be posting, but don't. Where there are no LeboALERTS for missing persons, but there are for events for honoring the finest PIO that ever existed in the history of mankind. It is all about me and getting my hair done, not in New York City.

Of all the injustices in the world, be they the local opiate crisis or the global refugee crisis, you have chosen to spend your energies fighting the injustices revolving around a suburban public official, injustices which include improper facility booking for a charity function. And it just so happens that you have a personally acrimonious relationship with said official.

Of course it's all about you. Stop pretending that there's a public good here. Drop the pretense that your motivations are anything other than vindictiveness. You are wallowing in your perceived victimhood. Get over it.

You should apologize for criticising the police. The PG is reporting Mr McHugh's body was found yesterday morning and it's likely a LeboAlert wasn't posted for this very reason.

This is Elaine's blog. She may say whatever she wants. It's called free speech. Obviously, she respects your right to free speech. Why can't you give her that same respect?

The first 24 hours after someone goes missing are the most critical for efforts to find them or perhaps intervene if the person is in danger. The person was last heard from 11:30 am Tuesday. The person was found dead 10:30 pm Thursday. That's a long time when someone is missing 9:51 am.

Lebo Citizens said...

Those are some pretty big words you used there, 6:51 AM. Such a command of the English language - almost like an old English teacher or a...a public information officer. Yes, I do devote some of my time fighting the injustices revolving around a suburban public official - an overpaid, arrogant, narcissistic suburban public official. Yes, I'm so vindictive, posting "glamour shots" of myself to outshine your beautiful photos on Facebook. I especially enjoyed the one from the pancake breakfast you hosted, you know the one where you look like a ventriloquist.

Also, 9:51 AM, I removed the post about the missing person on Lebo Citizens and extended my sympathies to his family on Nextdoor. So sad and tragic. A few years ago, I had posted a photo of a missing Mt. Lebanon woman here, and because of that post, she was located when Charlotte Stephenson spotted her in the Eat 'N Park parking lot on Banksville Road. I was hoping for a happy ending this time. So very sad.

No apology necessary Elaine. Mt. Lebanon Police were never looking for him. Police in McKees Rocks were. You did what you could.

If Susan M. Organs weren't so condescending, she wouldn't have people out in the community speaking ill of her. She invites the criticism by behaving the very same way, if not worse to others. Would I care who booked the municipal building for an event honoring a bunch of elderly women? No, of course not- but now that we know it was Susan M. Organs, and for the purpose of honoring herself, we question why and how. Because Susan's skin is just about as thin as Donald Trump's, we see her little jibes here on this blog and elsewhere, sowing the seeds of her very own perceived victimhood. She is not content being who she is and living her life of leisure- she and must and will react to each and every perceived assault on her personality, which is a defense mechanism of the hyper-paranoid. We should have sympathy for Susan, because it must be a full-time job to cover each perceived slight. We all know that Susan thinks the rules don't apply to her, and in many cases, she's correct. The one rule that does apply is the Golden Rule and one day she will find out the hard way, which should allow the rest of us to carry on with our lives knowing just desserts will be served.

I think we should hold a counter-event that designates Elaine the REAL most awesome woman in MTL ... Truth is, while she and I don't always agree, in my view there is no one who has done more for this community than Elaine. She shines a light in the darkness. Only those who don't want to see the truth resent her...

Lebo Citizens said...

Oh wow, Jason. Thanks! I would not want that. Ever. There are many awesome people here in Mt. Lebanon, just not too many who are public servants.
By the way, I'm still not changing my mind about PAYT even though I have less than a Giant Eagle bag full of garbage every week. LOL
Thanks again for your kind words.

Sorry, I actually meant the blonde woman on the left-hand side (to the right of the other person.) NOW you will see the resemblance. In fact, I think Lala and Susan may be twins.

Elaine,, why don't you change Salons... I know a great woman at PP SHV who would do wonders for your hair and the parking is free!!!

Anonymous said...

Oh by the way,, Elaine,, my previous comment on changing Hair Dressers was not meant to be rude in any way.. but as a positive option for you.. the woman that I see at PP does a beautiful job cutting and coloring thicker hair.. I went to LaP one time was felt totally out of place with the snobbery inside that Salon...

Lebo Citizens said...

I can relate to your snobbery comment, 1:38 PM. I see a former commissionette/deer hater/VA Manor resident there every time I go. Lots of snobbery inside that salon, but I am a long time client who continues to go there, in spite of the clientele, because it is a fantastic salon.

The parking situation is affecting the salon in two ways. Clients are late for appointments, in addition to staff having difficulty finding a place to park.

Our greedy municipality doesn't seem to understand that they are making it very difficult for everyone to shop and work Uptown.
