Whole Lotta Foods

First came Market District. Then Trader Joe's. Coming next is Fresh Market. But the big news is that Whole Foods is finally coming to the South Hills. It was announced today that Whole Foods will be building at the corner of Washington Road and Fort Couch Road on the former Consol Energy site.

Whole Foods is slated to cover 40,000 square feet and have more than 200 parking spots.
The Siena @ St. Clair development will have an additional 100,000 square feet of retail, including restaurants and stores, Mr. Kestler said.
He said other tenants are currently being lined up.
Whole Foods could open in or before fall 2015.

My heavens ! With Shop & Save and Bottom Dollar plus the market at N. Highland & Washington within close proximity, we're being overwhelmed with supply. Where will the cost justified demand come from ?

Wonder if there will be a shake-out with one or more closing in 2016 or so ? This seems to be akin to what has to be an excess of medical offices, outpatient facilities, etc. popping up all over the region.

The medical offices and outpatient facilities will be an off-shoot of Obamacare.

With Doctors getting paid the "government rate" there will be fewer of them. Get used to seeing a nurse practitioner at the MedExpress as your primary care facility.

It is what it is. You can't stay in business if you can't cover your costs. As we are seeing with Medicare, Doctors will just stop taking those patients or close up shop.

This is all a roundabout way of saying, get used to seeing the smaller clinics. They are here to stay.

I hear it's going to be getting "real" in the Whole Foods Parking Lot.

It does have a ring to it. I don't like rap music but I'm just fascinated by it. Maybe because it's so true.
