There are two police cars there now. I sent an email to Keith McGill, commissioners, Phil Weis, and Aaron Lauth asking if we are now going to be dealing with hunters with rifles now.
To be clear, there is no archery permitted anywhere until December 26.
I sent a second email about archery season and No Hunting Signs.
Here are the emails.
Hi Elaine,
The municipal archery program will not resume until December 26th on private properties and December 28th in the public properties approved for the program. In the event of a "sled-riding" snowfall over the Christmas break we will suspend use of the golf course property.

Hi Keith,
Thank you for your quick response.Just to clarify, will there be hunting at these locations between now and December 25 by those participating in our program? Also, any chance for a "cease fire" over Christmas break at the golf course?Elaine
BUT NO "NO HUNTING" SIGNS ARE GOING UP.
Update November 30, 2015 5:14 PM I heard back from Keith McGill.
Hi Elaine,
Actually archery season is not over but if you are archery hunting now you are required to wear orange. As I stated earlier the municipal archery program will not resume until December 26th as we chose not to hunt the two weeks where you are required to wear orange.Update November 30, 2015 7:29 PM Another email sent to Keith McGill.

Hi Elaine,
We are WMU2. Here is the link http://www.portal.state.pa.us/portal/server.pt?open=514&objID=576240&mode=2
DEER (Antlered and Antlerless) WMUs 2B, 5A, 5B, 5C and 5D: Nov. 30-Dec. 12. One antlered deer per hunting license year. An antlerless deer with each required antlerless license.
Why am I the only one who doesn't know how many deer are here? November 30, 2015 |
I did thank Keith McGill, the commission, Aaron Lauth and Phil Weis for making a wise decision.
Hi Keith,
It certainly IS confusing. It looks like Scott Township's solicitor interpreted it the same way that I did.
Anyway, I'm not complaining. Thank you, everyone, for making this decision. Elaine

Was the guy with the truck trying to rifle hunt?
I haven't heard. The police were going to follow up with the caller.

Wait a second...your telling me that if they wear orange, they can still hunt? That was never brought up before. What the f...
sigh. It is news to me too. This is a real nightmare.
Elaine
The police showed up...and then left. Here is what we/they "don't" know:
#1 Whether or not the hunter was legally hunting
#2 Whether or not the hunter was part of the archery program
#3 Whether or not the hunter was wearing orange
#4 Whether or not the hunter was using a tree stand
#5 Whether or not the hunter had permission to hunt on those private properties
#6 Where the hunter's location was

I am so confused. I thought it was open season in Mt Lebanon.

And what is the deal with ORANGE? Are the PA Game Commission and Mt Lebanon telling us that sometimes hunters wear orange and sometimes they don't? And that Mt Lebanon chose not to hunt when orange is required? Is that so the hunters can BLEND IN?
I see no evidence that deer hunters are not required to wear orange. I only saw that coyotes can be hunted that way... which is bogus, of course. But I am wondering if that hunter that has caused all the trouble for Amy.... was he wearing orange?

Don't wear white after Labor Day.
Don't wear orange unless you have a gun.
Hands up, don't shoot, says Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, and Vixen.
This will be over when I wake up, right?
Title 58 PA Code § 141.43. Deer
(d) Regular and special firearms deer seasons.
(ii) A bow and arrow as permitted under subsection (a)(1)(i).
(iii) A crossbow and bolt as permitted under subsection (a)(1)(ii).
Mt. Lebanon is WMU 2B
A bow and arrow or crossbow and bolt is permitted during these seasons:
Regular firearms Nov. 30-Dec. 12
Flintlock firearms Dec. 26-Jan. 23
By county law, it is illegal to hunt with a centerfire rifle in Allegheny County.
When were they going to tell us this ?
These commissioners are advertising MTL as a haven for deer hunting and they have schemed to have archers do their work on the down low-- not telling people where they are hunting and ensuring that they do not have to wear orange.
Sidebar: Did ya notice that the man who killed a police officer over the weekend in the area did it with a hunting rifle? See local newspaper.
Jon Delano.. is such a phony.. he plays nice on the radio/TV
but let any of those large Lebo rodents eat any of his shrubs on Longuevue Drive and he'll personally blast them away..
The caption under his photo is mine. I have lost all respect for the man. Was he always like that or did his neighbor Michalina get to him?

If Mt Lebanon knew what it was doing with deer management would there be so many news articles that contain the words "halt" "deer kill"?

Thanks to a Lebo Citizens reader for pointing this out to me. Scott's solicitor sees it the same way I do. See page 10 of 29 here:

It is from my website under Scott v MTL - the Scott Township Complaint.

I am still confused, Elaine. So they aren't hunting with archery now because hunters with guns are in town to hunt the deer and the archery hunters would suddenly have to wear orange. Are they concerned that the hunters with guns are going to hit the archers in orange? Correct me if I am wrong but since Wild Turkey season is also ongoing in our WMU 2B and those hunters use shotguns, I do not understand why the archers haven't been wearing orange because the turkey hunters could get them too.
I so didn't think I would ever need to consider any of these issues. WMU 2B or not 2B. sigh.
WILD TURKEY (Male or Female): WMU 1B – Oct. 31-Nov. 7 and Nov. 26-28; WMU 2B (Shotgun and bow and arrow) – Oct. 31-Nov. 20 and Nov. 26-28; WMUs 1A, 2A, 2D, 2E, 2F, 2G, 2H, 3A, 3B, 3C, 3D, 4A, 4B and 4D– Oct. 31-Nov. 14 and Nov. 26-28; WMUs 2C, 4C and 4E – Oct. 31-Nov. 20 and Nov. 26-28; WMU 5A – Nov. 5-7; WMUs 5B, 5C and 5D – CLOSED TO FALL TURKEY HUNTING.
Who knew State Game Lands were right here in Mt. Lebanon, a community with character?

DEER, ARCHERY (Antlered and Antlerless) Sept. 19- Nov. 28 and Dec. 26-Jan. 23, 2016. One antlerless deer with each required antlerless license. One antlered deer per hunting license year.
Didn't I read somewhere more than two deer per hunter were taken during archery season in Mt. Lebanon?
You read that four deer (including a fawn) were taken by Aaron Gander on October 5. The word on the street is that Greg Perri requested fawns, specifically, because the meat is more tender. That makes my stomach turn every time I think about it. Remember Greg told the press that he slept outside of his daughter's bedroom doors because he was fearful. Puleeze.
We're special, 7:34 AM. The Wildlife Management Officer from the PA Game Commission gave McGill his blessings. No doubt, the same officer who says that the website is confusing and just listen to what he says.
Elaine
so the hearing for Amy Castor is Thursday morning? any details on Amy? is she orig from Mt Lebanon? was she visiting relatives and did she have any prior knowledge of the legal hunt? amazing that the Lebo police would show up so fast for a trespass incident.. omg did Amy have a weapon???
Amy had a camera, and some police consider a camera to be a weapon.
Her weapon was a camera.
Welcome to the new Mt. Lebanon. Hunters, arrows, guns and bullets, tree stands. Pickup trucks with hunting decals. Blood stains. Entrails by the dump.
A hunting ground for most of the year, every year.
All to save a few posies and provide people with free venison.
Yee haw!
It's truly sad that such an educated, enlightened community has stooped to this low.
The real waste is the taxpayer $$$ that is paying for the muni staff and Corn Cops to address the whole sordid program, when they should be down on Cedar Blvd. ticketing the Sunoco 18-wheeler that just fish tailed through the crosswalk at Mayfair doing 65 mph.
They don't have time for real work. No time to deal with real safety issues.
Mr. Jim Bob police man needs to make sure Bubba and his buddies down thar in Leboville git their kills so they can feel like real manly men.
Make sure the little women can have their perfect little gardens and not be a scared of them thar dangerous deer.
One time John Bendel quietly said that this was "a problem they could fix". I don't think they know how to fix the REAL problems. The mentality of Mt Lebanon government is to go after the "low hanging fruit".
Shaking my head.
Why is the cull resuming after Christmas? Even Jay Lewis, the pro cull commenter, stated in response to the article, there aren't many deer in Mt. Lebanon and there's no need to bring in sharpshooters.
Since it was unknown how many deer there were prior to the cull and the number killed is unknown, what is the purpose of continuing to cull?
Is Mt. Lebanon simply going to continue to cull deer on an ongoing basis?
Will special permissions be granted to the hunters going forward as well?
Will there continue to be secret hunts on private properties?
Will there ever be any non lethal means used or is Mt. Lebanon now a hunting/culling community, despite the population density?
People are still commenting on the Hayes article from last week.

10:31, all great questions.
I don't know who your commissioner is, please forward these questions to him/her in addition to the interim manager Keith McGill and let us know what you find out.
Nick M.
Nick, 10:31 here. I no longer live in Mt. Lebanon.
Maybe a current Lebo resident could email the questions to the commissioners. They certainly won't want to respond to me!
