Interesting connections, observations, and more mail UPDATED with link

It looks like we are off to the races, that is the commission and school board director races. Readers continue to send me particulars about candidates running in the May Primary.

Craig Grella (D), Ward 4 candidate handled Mt. Lebanon Democratic Committee chair, Michelle Zmijanac's digital campaign.

Craig supports lethal culling methods. White Buffalo president, Tony DeNicola is now recommending non-traditional lethal methods which include trap and bolt, the most inhumane way to kill deer. Craig rents his home and lives next door to a neighbor who has fruit trees. We will all pay the price to have the deer, who are attracted to those fruit trees, killed.

Steve Silverman's Accomplishments Steve believes he has improved Pedestrian and Vehicular Safety by voting for killing deer with high powered rifles in our community 30 minutes after our elementary school children are dismissed from school. Pedestrians continue to get hit in cross walks, DUI's are on the rise, and supports breathalyzer tests for people on bicycles while showing his support to the Friends of the Library. His Facebook page, Vote Steve Silverman features photos from the Beer Bashes and Brews held at the library. He is also taking credit for our Fire Department achieving an ISO Class I rating and Spring Hill Suites opening. Steve also supports taking grandmothers on Social Security to Common Pleas Court to appeal the PA Office of Open Records decision. Silverman tends to leak private emails, within a few hours, to his friends. The friends, in turn, pay an unannounced visit to the homes of those same grandmothers on Social Security. You will see many of Steve's yard signs on every corner in Ward 2.

Anonymous letters continues to show up in my mail box. The ones I got this week include a suggested political sign for the Timmy Ticket, as well as more "scoop" on Birks and Cappucci.

"Unethical" is printed in yellow ink.
Click on "scoop" link above for scanned image.

Will we get any more information on former school board president and newly appointed Girls' Volleyball Coach Joe Rodella and the Timmy Ticket's' association with PA Cyber? Federal judge sides with prosecutors in unsealing Trombetta case records

I live in Ward 2. I will vote for Bob Lee to be the next Ward 2 Commissioner. Silverman is despicable.

Do not forget that Mary's husband David was very active in youth soccer. Therefore can Mary be objective in the decision to spend $1 million artificially turfing the high school practice field?
Don't forget that recovery of this practice field by all rights should have been included in the original high school bid since Celli and friends used it as a staging area and created the mountain of dirt on it.
If that $1 million turfing is included then pretty sure the HS project would be over the Act 34 cap that would've triggered a referendum on the project which the voters had a good chance of rejecting.

No vote for Craig Grella! His story of panic when confronted by a tame and docile deer is laughable. Yes, better to invite DeNicola to his back yard to shoot a high powered rifle to blow the brains out of that tame deer and threaten the safety of the entire community than to ask his neighbor to fence off the apple tree feeding the deer and attracting these menacing deer to his yard. Allowing his 4 year old daughter, who was delighted with joy to see the deer, watch DeNicola shoot the doe and her bleed to death, or watch him put a plastic bag over the deer's head to smother her (see video below), will teach his daughter, who loves animals, a valuable lesson in compassion, mercy, and family values. So disappointed in Grella's uninformed position. Don't know if Grella came up with this stupidity on his own, or if Barbara Logan has already poisoned the well of Democrat candidates, and got them all to commit to her personal obsession of slaughtering deer if elected. ps. I'm a Democrat.

Now does Bob Fischer (R) have any more sense, or will he be the same old Lebo Republican retread ready to fall in line.

It makes me yearn for the days when Dan Miller (D) and Raja (R) both dynamic individuals ran and were elected as commissioners. That's the only time I witnessed Mt. Lebanon's Commission function as a forward thinking and effective body of government.

Good idea, make Grella pull the trigger while his daughter watches. A life lesson she'll never forget and put Mr.. Grella in a better position to decide if culling is humane or not.

In fact, if we go to trap and bolt culling all the pro-culling crew should be forced to take a turn at pulling the trigger. No need for sharpshooters when the animal is caught in a trap.
Those that want to kill the deer should step up and volunteer.

CAPTIVE BOLT METHOD FOR DEER IS CRUEL

Editor, Echoes-Sentinel, July 14, 2005

On behalf of the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and its 7.7 million members [now over 12 million] and constituents, I am writing to object strongly to your plan to use trapping and the captive bolt as a management tool for white-tailed deer.

The HSUS is committed to preventing needless pain and suffering to all animals. It is cruel to attempt to euthanize a wild animal with a captive bolt gun because the animal will suffer needlessly and terribly. There is nothing remotely humane in this process.

Captive bolt guns are designed for use on RESTRAINED domestic animals, typically in slaughterhouses. The "humaneness" of this device has been called into question under those circumstances as well.

There is ample documentation about the cruel, slow deaths suffered by domestic animals in slaughterhouses. These guns were not designed for use on wild animals under any circumstances, certainly not as a management tool for white-tailed deer.

I urge you, on behalf of the Humane Society of the United States and its members to reconsider and remove the captive bolt gun consideration.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or would like to discuss the matter further.

The parent who sent the Outreach letter is correct. The Teen Screen program should be placed out for bid. If Outreach wins the bid then state law dictates that Mrs. Birks cannot have any supervisory or administrative involvement. That's just not possible given Mrs. Birks is the Outreach Executive Director. She can sit on School Board OR run Outreach. Not both. Next, it could be a director pushing their tutoring service or rehab facility or SAT prep service or whatever. The rules exist for a reason.

I sent the following email to the school board and copied Timmy and Janice Crompton from the PG.

School board directors,

I approved the following comment for my blog, Lebo Citizens.

I am quite concerned about this comment as well as the anonymous letter which was sent to my home. I would like a response from the school board. What is your position with Mary Birks being School Board President while being the Outreach Executive Director at the same time..

This should be interesting since you tend to have the school board president answer all emails and sign all emails, "For the Board."

The teen screen they currently use is outdated, too. Researchers indicate it shouldn't be used.

after walking down Markham Drive recently and seeing Steve Silverman signs in every yard..if I were Charlotte Stephenson, I would pull out of the race or expect to lose in a landslide..

Oh 12:04 PM, if you only knew what is happening. Steve Silverman and Bob Lee are running against each other on the Democratic ticket. One of them will win the Primary. Charlotte Stephenson is running on the Republican ticket unopposed. She will win the Primary no matter how many signs Steve Silverman has planted in people's yards.

thanks for the update,, I was just surprised to see all the signs for Steve. in his personal life Steve is a nice guy,, but he works at a family business and I don't think he understands fiscal responsibility.. also there is new breed now living in Lebo and what really shocks me is these young moms who feel that the deer should be slaughtered so they can keep a well manicured yard..
oh one more thought,, in order for Steve to have all the signs,, he must have a good organization,,, Charlotte needs to think about this..

Lebo Citizens said...

Again, 12:41 PM, it isn't Charlotte who "needs to think about this." it is Bob Lee who is running against Steve Silverman.

I agree with 12:41, regardless that Charlotte isn't running against Silverman in the primary.
One can easily see that by 12:04's comment that status quo are already taking or better yet, talking Charlotte down.
This is the time to define why Silverman needs to be replaced.

Right now, this primary isn't about who the Ward 2 candidate, Silverman, Lee or Stephenson, should be.

It about defining the issues! Incumbent Silverman has the advantage right now and the support from the people that like the way things are currently.
Both Lee and Stephenson need to explain way Silverman needs to be replaced and they need to do it now if they're going to build support for the real election in November.
