About that write-in campaign...

We have five seats open for school board and six candidates running for those seats. Sounds like a game of musical chairs, doesn't it? To make it a more interesting election, I thought it might be fun to ask for suggestions and set up another poll with those names to see who would win. So far, I have heard Giffen Good, Mickey Mouse, and even James Fraasch.  Maybe we can make a difference and get a message out to the board after all.  I will take anonymous comments on this thread, but only if they are reasonable.

I forgot to add Moe, Curly, and Larry to the list.

Lets see Mark Hart seemed to have been prophetic. Alan Silhol at least listened. Bill Matthews seems to have a grasp on reality!

Giffen Good
Veblen Good
Santa Claus
Citizen A
Charlie Brown
Bill Gates

Listed randomly.

That list is pretty silly, Anonymous. Everyone knows that Bill Gates is one of my imaginary friends. ;)

A question for any resident that may have information.
Has the Republican Party abandoned Mt. Lebanon? Visit their website. Raja is still listed as Ward 1 Commissioner and Party Chairman. There is no Ward 1 Republican candidate since Brown dropped out. One would think the party would have rushed to fill that important void.
Two Republican office holders are openly endorsing Democrats and the Ward 3 Republican incumbent has his home up for sale.
Is he staying, is he going?
Is he staying through the election then leaving which will allow the democrat majority to hand pick a Ward 3 commissioner?
Remember, Jo Posti was retained on the school board by like 37 votes.
Choose your favorites wisely and if you're undecided don't pull a lever just because you think you have too. A blank vote sends a message too, which may influence fresh blood to get involved!
By the way, I like Gillen for Ward 3! She at least is attentive, involved and up front. I think she is a good listen also.

Jo Posti seems to be trying to channel Steve Jobs if you read her Center Court blog.
This from HuntingtonPost.com: "Jobs' Meeting With Obama
Jobs also criticized America's education system, saying it was "crippled by union work rules," noted Isaacson. "Until the teachers' unions were broken, there was almost no hope for education reform." Jobs proposed allowing principals to hire and fire teachers based on merit, that schools stay open until 6 p.m. and that they be open 11 months a year."
She may be right! Yay on Steve Jobs.

How about Dr. Steinhauer!
That way he can simultaneously vote himself a bigger salary, more vacation time and hire $1,000/hr. facilitators while crying about imagined state education cuts, underfunded pension plans and continuously looking for 5% classroom materials cuts.
After all its for the kids!

About the Republicans, Brown has not taken down his website. His name will still be on the ballot, so there is no need for the party to replace him. Anyone who votes straight Rep. will vote for him if they are in Ward 1. About Ward 3, Joe's house is no longer on the market. My guess is he is doing exactly what he told the Rep. committee in March. He wasn't going anywhere. I guess that was strictly done for the media.
Thanks for your vote of confidence. I didn't win the Primary, so it doesn't look good for next month, Anonymous. Whoever wins, I hope they remain as transparent as the current commission has been.

A transparent Commission? How did we go from a structural budget imbalance to a storm water fee that must be used to meet an EPA mandate to a bond issue for athletics and recreation? What Transparency?

Anonymous said...

Elaine, how many people vote straight Republican?
The Republican Party is pretty much conceeding Ward 1 now that Republicans lag in MTL: registrations.
Nor does it explain party members endorsing democrats.

I have no idea. Maybe a write-in campaign has possibilities!

I like to see Elaine Gillen for Ward 3. Elaine, you have a grasp on reality!

That ship has sailed. I do have a bunch of yard signs that weren't stolen, if you want to make me an offer. LOL

And before I get reported somewhere, I was making a joke.

You have my vote Elaine.

Thank you. Odds aren't favorable, Anonymous. The voters spoke in May. I will wait four years and try again. Or, if Joe wins and moves away as he said under sworn testimony, I will apply for the job. If Kristen wins, and gets the high school project moving and then resigns, I will apply for the job. But those are a lot of ifs, aren't they?

Haven't heard Joe say much of anything about any topic. Linfante either for that matter.
Does that mean the new campaign strategy for public office is... don't indicate anything? Don't admit to past mistakes, don't highlight votes etc., just sneak under the radar and hope no one ask questions!
What a way to pick our representatives!

Have you ever looked in side teacher’s supply cabinets? They are packed with school supplies! I asked a teacher once why do they have over stocked supply cabinets and I was told because you never know when your supply budget will be taken away so you must over order in good times.

I'll vote for James Cannon because I think he will be transparent about what's going on behind closed doors. I don't think he will tell stuff he shouldn't. But if folks have a right to know he will be open. I also think he will get the finance committee back up and running so we know where the money is going. My other votes will be Mark Hart, James Fraasch, Alan Silhol, and Marge Sable. All good people!

I might write in Dale Ostergaard even though he is not up for re-election. Too bad we can't double his votes.

Lately he seems to be looking outside the usual box and deserves some acknowledgement.
